Former World Number 1 and Olympic athlete Harrie Smolders has followed an unconventional path to success. From humble beginnings in the Netherlands, Harrie has beaten the odds, following his dream of becoming one of the world’s greatest athletes, always with the understanding that hard work and dedication are core elements to make dreams come true. Now one of the most respected horseman in the world, Harrie is also a very talented trainer, renowned for his tact, skill and sensitivity to ensure those he teaches are able to fulfil their maximum potential. He has an impressive sport record, from European to World Championships, but also Olympics, Nations cup and World Cup, with team and individual titles.
After 14 podiums without a win in 5* Grand Prix events, Harrie Smolders finally triumphed in December 2024 at the CHI Geneva with Monaco. Riding the same horse, he went on to claim victory in the prestigious Grand Prix events at Cannes and Riesenbeck. In the Rolex Grand Prix at Dinard, he finished 2nd, just behind Aaron Vale (USA), marking a highly successful year for the Dutch rider.
