Dirk Demeersman is a rider with a long and varied career, renowned both for producing young horses and for his success in top-level competition. He was part of the Belgian team that won bronze at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington.
Throughout his career, he shone on the biggest international stages: winner of the Grand Prix of Rome (2000), runner-up in the Aachen Grand Prix (2005), and winner of the World Cup in Mechelen (2006). He also represented Belgium at three Olympic Games (1992, 2004, 2012), finishing fourth in Athens in 2004 with Clinton.
After his competitive career, Dirk became Belgium’s national show jumping coach, guiding the team to Nations Cup victory in Barcelona in 2015, along with further successes in St. Gallen and Hickstead.
Even after stepping back from top-level sport, he remains active both in competition and training. In October 2023, he won the Young Horse Final (1.45 m) in Valkenswaard with his own stallion Cote d’Or Z. More recently, in November 2024, he took an excellent 3rd place in a CSI2* (1.40 m) in Opglabbeek with Cote d’Or Z, and in October 2023 finished 2nd in the CSI2* Grand Prix in Lier (1.45 m).
