The final qualifying class for the Rolex Grand Prix Ville de La Baule brought the crowd to their feet this Saturday afternoon, as the CSIO5* 1.50m Prix SAUR unfolded with high stakes and fierce competition. Out of 63 starters, 18 riders delivered clear rounds, securing their place in the jump-off.
Carlos Hank Guerreiro (MEX) and H5 Ishaq Attack opened the class with style, producing the first clear round — a performance that set the tone for a wave of faultless rides. Among the standouts: Laura Kraut (USA) with Emeraldo 4, Stephan de Freitas Barcha (BRA) on Dinozo Imperio Egipcio, and three talented French riders — Jeanne Sadran, Lara Tryba, and Olivier Perreau.
Notably, two already-qualified riders, Olivier Perreau and Armando Trapote, chose not to return for the second round.
The jump-off launched with Carlos Hank Guerreiro setting the bar again, but the pace quickly intensified. Laura Kraut laid down a beautiful double clear, only to be overtaken by Peder Fredricson, then René Dittmer (GER). The fault-free streak continued, and the stopwatch became the ultimate judge.
In the end, it was Shane Sweetnam (IRL) and Gilona AO who stopped the clock at 36.28 seconds, clinching the victory and continuing Ireland’s stellar form this weekend. Abdel Saïd (BEL) and Calvaro followed closely in second (36.56s), while Nadja Peter Steiner (SUI) took third aboard Nice van’t Zorgvliet (36.63s).
With back-to-back wins for Team Ireland in La Baule, all eyes now turn to the Rolex Grand Prix Ville de La Baule, kicking off Sunday at 2:00 PM.
