Rain Can’t Stop the Stars: McLain Ward Claims Victory in the First Qualifier for the Rolex Grand Prix Ville de La Baule

Despite the rain showers sweeping across the François André Stadium this afternoon, the world’s top show jumpers delivered an outstanding performance in the first CSIO5* qualifying class for Sunday’s Rolex Grand Prix Ville de La Baule.

Designed by Gregory Bodo, the 1.50m Table A against the clock brought 64 horse-and-rider combinations to the start. With 23 clear rounds, the level was high — but in the end, it was McLain Ward (USA) who rose above the rest, piloting High Star Hero to a perfectly timed (61,61s )and effortless round to take the win. Just behind him, Ireland’s Cian O’Connor and Gengis Kann de Londe claimed second place in 62,71s with a sharp and stylish performance. Italy’s Riccardo Pisani rounded out the podium with Chacco’s Lawito PS ( 63,73s), keeping the pressure on until the final riders.

The best French result came from Nicolas Sers, who finished 12th aboard Eleven de Riverland, earning valuable points toward qualification for the weekend’s Grand Prix.

The rain may have dampened the footing, but not the spirit — and with this level of sport already on display, the road to Sunday’s Rolex Grand Prix promises to be thrilling.
