Returning to Dublin as the defending champion, Laura Kraut (USA) admits that her victory in last year's Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland remains one of the most memorable moments of her career.

"It was unbelievable. Honestly, it was such a surprise. To win at the end of the class, and to be the only clear round, was something I never expected. More than anything, I was incredibly proud of my horse, Bisquetta."

For Kraut, the Gallagher Dublin Horse Show holds a unique place on the international calendar.

"It's one of the most historic events in our sport. What makes it so special is the people. Ireland is such a horse country and you really feel that everywhere. There are so many activities around the show, the atmosphere is incredible, and everyone genuinely appreciates the horses, the riders and the sport. You feel it the moment you arrive."

Although she returns this year as the reigning champion, the American insists her approach remains unchanged.

"I don't really think about defending the title. Every time I go to a show, I go there to try to win, so this year is no different."

This week, Kraut will partner Baloutinue, one of the finest horses she has ever ridden, and her ambition is clear.

"We're definitely going to give it a go. Winning the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland once was incredibly special, but to win it a second time would be amazing."

While smiling at comparisons with the legendary Nick Skelton, a multiple-time winner in Dublin, Kraut remains realistic.

"I don't think I'll have enough time to catch Nick's record! But just competing in Dublin is always special. Every rider knows how much history this event has, and now, as part of the Rolex Series, it has an even greater prestige."
